MANILA, Philippines — A subsidiary of Yuchengco-led PetroEnergy Resources Corp. has activated the 360-kilowatt-peak solar rooftop power project at the Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM) in Davao City.

This followed the agreement signed by PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and MMCM in February for the installation of 600 units of 600-watt-peak solar panels in the schools’ two main buildings.

The notice to proceed was issued in May, and the installation took more than two months to be completed.

PGEC president and CEO Francisco Delfin Jr. said the project would not only lower the school’s electricity costs but also strengthen MMCM’s sustainability push.

The project is the company’s second renewable energy (RE) venture this year, following the commissioning of its Nabas-2 wind farm in the Panay power grid in April.

“PGEC is committed to investing in more and bigger capacity RE projects in Mindanao and throughout the country,” Delfin said.

A member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, MMCM is committed to delivering an excellent technology-driven education to its students through an instructional approach that combines onsite and online learning experiences.

MMCM president and CEO Dodjie Maestrecampo said the activation of the solar project reflected the school’s dedication to investing in technological advancement and education.

“This project will not only help us achieve a more energy-efficient campus but will also provide invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for our students in energy science, engineering, and environment-related courses,” Maestrecampo said.

PGEC is further bulking up its RE portfolio with new solar and offshore wind energy projects across the country.

Currently, it has investments in a 32-megawatt (MW) geothermal power project in Batangas, a 50-MW wind development in Aklan and a 70-MW solar venture in Tarlac.
